In a distinguished celebratory atmosphere that reflected the spirit of cultural exchange and human connection between nations, the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi hosted a special celebration marking “Everest Day” on Saturday evening, May 29, 2026, at Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi Hotel. The event was attended by a number of ambassadors, members of diplomatic missions accredited to the United Arab Emirates, as well as prominent community figures, media representatives, business leaders, and individuals interested in the tourism and travel sectors.

The celebration was attended by Aisha Abdullah, Ambassador of Happiness; Dr. Hussein Yaslam, Advisor to Sheikh Mansour bin Sorour bin Mohammed Al Sharqi; Abdullah Al Baloushi, Director of the Office of Sheikh Ahmed bin سعيد Al Nahyan; and Ismail Mohammed Salmeen, Business Development Manager at the Sheikh Ahmed bin Obaid Al Maktoum Group of Companies, in addition to a distinguished gathering of journalists, media professionals, and members of Arab and international communities.

The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of the United Arab Emirates and Nepal, followed by a speech delivered by His Excellency Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE. In his address, the ambassador emphasized the strong and distinguished bilateral relations between the UAE and Nepal, praising the continuous support extended by the UAE across various sectors, as well as the vital role tourism plays in strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between peoples.

The ambassador also highlighted Nepal’s global status as the home of Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world, stressing that mountain tourism represents one of Nepal’s most prominent tourism assets, attracting thousands of adventurers and nature enthusiasts from around the globe.

The event featured welcoming remarks and informative presentations shedding light on the historical and humanitarian significance of Mount Everest as a universal symbol of challenge, determination, and ambition. The program also showcased a number of inspiring success stories and achievements by Emirati and international mountaineers.

The evening further included artistic and cultural performances reflecting Nepal’s rich folk heritage, with traditional dances and songs that captivated the audience and highlighted the richness and diversity of Nepalese culture and civilization. Traditional costumes and folk music added a vibrant festive atmosphere, introducing guests to the authentic customs and traditions of the Nepalese people.

In a special gesture of appreciation, His Excellency the Ambassador honored the UAE mountaineering heroes who achieved a historic accomplishment as the first Arab team to successfully climb Mount Everest, led by Saeed Al Maamari. The recognition celebrated their remarkable achievement, which embodies the spirit of challenge and perseverance and reinforces the UAE’s standing in international sports and humanitarian arenas.

The evening also included a raffle draw, during which four attendees won round-trip airline tickets generously offered by Air Arabia and flydubai, creating an atmosphere of excitement and joy among the guests.

Attendees praised the excellent organization and high standard of the event, emphasizing the importance of such occasions in strengthening cultural and tourism bridges between nations and highlighting inspiring humanitarian and sporting achievements.
